Difference between CAT, MAT as well as CMAT

CAT or MAT?

CAT is a national level entrance exam regulated by IIMs & its 19 brothers, other colleges do consider CAT scores as the eligibility criteria for enrolment. CAT is an ellipsis of Common Admission Test, though the exam is not at all easy and common. It takes place once in an academic year nearly in the upcoming months with a distinct format and questionnaires. It might sound like CAT is some sort of volcanic eruption in a peaceful life, nevertheless an easy path can’t lead to a legendary life. CAT is the only gateway to A-Grade B-schools in India. At least 50% score in graduation is required to appear for the exam. Minimum 95% percentile can open the doors of the first stage in IIMs followed by Group discussions and Personal interviews. Scoring less than 95% should not disappoint you in life, still enormous colleges are willing to take applications.

MAT as well is a national level entrance exam conducted by AIMA (All India Management Association). Management Aptitude Test is abridged as MAT, more than 500 institutions approve MAT exam and is easy to notch 80% for an average student. The exam takes place four times in a year, but only those students are eligible to be placed in the top ranked B-Grade Business Schools whose percentile is more than 95%. Unlike CAT exam solving previous year question paper helps a lot as the pattern of question paper stays nearly equivalent.
Students with good notch can apply for AICTE approved colleges & universities. A degree holder or a final year student awaiting results is eligible to apply for MAT. The test pattern is pretty much the same as that of the CAT. In MAT, there is an additional section on General Awareness. Even though clearing each section is compulsory, the General Awareness section score is not taken while calculating the percentile.

This was the prospect for the students who are selected apparently, not everyone is intelligent enough to rank first, the concerns are the mediocre students. What should they do in respect to have a better career? A number of colleges and institutions are practicing MBA/BBA, who have their own entrance exam and good placement opportunities. All it demands is to look out for the right one. In a population of 1.3 billion it is quite impossible for all the eligible students to get placed where they aspire.

CMAT: - All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) imparts CMAT (Common Management Admisssion Test), more than 1.5 L students appear for this exam, CMAT is a new platform to MBA aspirants, it took place in 2012 & entitled the second position in the list of entrance exams in India. Around 500 institutes approve CMAT scores for admission. There are 20 more entrance exams currently pursued for MBA admissions.
